Here are some of the frequently asked questions from Jump Start School of Motoring previous students.
You need to be at least 17 years of age and if you have not already done so, apply for a provisional licence. Please refer to our resources page and follow the link, Apply For Your Provisional Licence. You must also be able to read a standard number plate from a distance of 20 metres. If you need further information about the rules regarding your eyesight please follow the link, Driving Eyesight Rules.
You need to bring your provisional licence with you to the first lesson. If you have been prescribed glasses bring those with you as well.
Absolutely, you will definitely drive the car in the first lesson. If you have never driven before, we will go through setting you up in the car so that you are comfortable and your mirrors are adjusted to your driving position. Following that, we will look at getting you to move the car and stop safely. The remainder of the lesson will be tailored to meet your level of competence.
Regular, structured lessons are important and we recommend you have 2 hours each week. We have some students that have had between 4 and 6 hours per week and their progression to test standard has been much quicker.
The number of lessons required varies from student to student and is dependent on a number of factors. For more information on these factors please visit our Prices page. We will monitor your progress against your Progress Record and have regular conversations about your route to test.
No, it is our recommendation that you start preparing for your theory test whilst having your driving lessons. Those students that have done both side-by-side have said that they are more prepared for the theory test because they are more aware of developing hazards, road and traffic signs and the general rules of the road. You will need to pass your theory test before applying for your practical driving test. We provide as much support as you need to help you pass your theory test. For more information please visit our Theory Test page.
We offer lessons 6 days a week and will endeavour to work around your schedule including early mornings and weekends. All we ask is you let us know in advance if possible if you need to cancel your lesson.
With prior notice we can collect you from a preferred location, it does not always have to be from your home. If it is more convenient to collect you and drop you off at a different location we can accommodate that. If you are being dropped off in a different location we ask that you notify us at the beginning of a lesson.
You will use the same car you have had your lessons in and so will be very familiar with it on the day of your test.
